While WeWALK’s obstacle detection is effective at identifying many obstacles, it cannot detect drops at ground level, such as stairs, curbs, or holes. Therefore, it is important to maintain strong traditional cane skills when navigating these types of obstacles.
Additionally, WeWALK may have difficulty detecting soft fabrics or small objects at the limit of its detection range. It performs best with hard surfaces, which provide stronger and more reliable feedback.
You can customize the obstacle detection settings either directly on the cane or through the WeWALK app.
Customizing Obstacle Detection on the Cane
- Turn On/Off Obstacle Detection – Press and hold the obstacle detection button to turn the feature on or off.
- Adjust Detection Range – Once obstacle detection is on, press the same button briefly to cycle through detection ranges: Short, Mid, and Far.
Customizing Obstacle Detection via the WeWALK App
If your WeWALK Smart Cane 2 and WeWALK app are up to date, you can adjust obstacle detection settings through the app by following these steps:

These settings allow you to tailor the obstacle detection experience based on your environment and personal preferences.
