Compass calibration ensures that the WeWALK Smart Cane 2’s compass provides accurate directional information. Calibrating the compass helps the device correctly interpret your orientation and improves the reliability of navigation.
If navigation feels inaccurate or your cane reports the wrong direction, calibrating the compass usually resolves it.
- Make sure your WeWALK mobile application is updated from the App Updates in AppStore or Google Play.
- Turn on the Bluetooth of your mobile phone and turn the Smart Cane 2 on by pressing the square button on the cane.
- Connect your Smart Cane 2 to your mobile phone by clicking WeWALK from the Bluetooth settings on your phone.
- Make sure your Smart Cane 2 firmware is updated from Check Updates under the Smart Cane tab once you connect your cane.
- Confirm that your Smart Cane 2 is properly attached to the white cane.
- Move to an outdoor area with no magnetic interference, such as other Bluetooth devices that are powered on.
- Hold the cane at a walking angle of about 45 to 55 degrees, with the side containing four buttons facing upward and the side with two buttons facing right.
- Start the compass calibration by opening the Compass Calibration section in the Smart Cane tab of the WeWALK app and tap Start Compass Calibration.
- While keeping the cane steady at the walking angle, slowly rotate in a full circle together with the cane. Continue rotating until you hear three consecutive beeps — this usually takes 3 to 4 rotations.
- Calibration is complete when you hear three consecutive beeps.
If you ever feel that the compass on your cane is not working correctly, you can repeat these steps at any time.
